This cover was mostly recorded from June to July 2007.

The original intent of the recording was just a test in learning how to setup and mic a toy glockenspiel I bought a few weeks prior. I decided to try using the glock to replicate the song's melody, since I had been listening to Elliott Smith's self-titled on heavy rotation while commuting back and forth to my summer job.

Though I liked the final recording in general, I was always somewhat dissatisfied with the original vocal take and at some point, was going to re-record a new one but ultimately got a little complacent about it. In November 2022, I recorded some new background vocals that blend in with that original take and it sounds a bit better to me now.
